Reading 2

My second reading was Edgar Varese’s, “The Liberation of Sound”.  I guess I never really thought about the parallels between using paint as a medium and using sound as a medium.  But it was very clear in this article just how much sound can be manipulated and used for the purpose of giving it “form,” just as a painter would use paint to create modeled forms in a painting.  As a painter, I’m interested to see how I’ll be able to work with sound if I approach it in the same way as I would if I were to be creating a painting.

The proper place for this image, I believe, would be a barbershop.  It’s useful information, too if ever they should happen to encounter a bearded lady amongst their clientele.
